The History of Valley Art Center
For over 40 years Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls has been a gathering place for local artists and patrons. Founded by inspired citizens, VAC was officially incorporated in 1971 when property was purchased on the edge of a bustling commercial district. VAC was established to present, promote, and teach visual art in the Chagrin Valley. We offer over 400 classes to more than 1,400 students ages 3 to 93 from beginners to masters each year. We exhibit 5 gallery shows annually featuring artists from around the corner and around the world. Art by the Falls outdoor art festival attracts over 120 national artists each June, bringing thousands of visitors to Chagrin Falls to view art in an idyllic historic setting, engaging all sectors of our community including volunteers and sponsors. Gallery exhibitors respond to a variety of captivating themes. Attracting thousands of guests annually, it is the only nonprofit art gallery in Chagrin Falls. Of note are the Student/Faculty Show and the Annual Juried Show attracting over 300 regional artists. Artists frequently sell work in the gallery and count on the income. VAC was a founding anchor partner of the Bell Street Art Walk, bringing visitors to a small arts district forming in Chagrin Falls. A successful capital campaign in 2007 resulted in a 2010 facility renovation designed to hold expanding programs. An intriguing exterior mural is in progress on our building, and our Bell Street Shop has been revitalized. VAC has established community partnerships, increasing a spirit of local collaboration.
