Valley Art Center in Chagrin Falls is excited to present two new gallery exhibits in January 2008. Celebration of Diversity offers a look at how art can tell a story or portray one who tells stories. Folk Art Invitational features artists who are either not formally trained, or who learned their art or craft from family or community.

Celebration of Diversity focuses on current and historical experiences from diverse cultures. Julius Lyles and Terika Henderson use photograpy to tell their stories. Ronald Clayton, Jerome T. White, Judith Albert, Kathy Simone and Linda Herman offer expressive paintings. Tracy Ameen inspires the viewer with her wonderful ceramic creations. This exhibit is made possible with the generous support of Target®.

Folk Art Invitational offers a look at both old and new folk art techniques. Artists Sherri Culver, Susan Conover, Nancy Evans and Brian Reitz offer amazing fiber works. Wood pieces from Ernie Conover, Gary Egner and Charles Poutasse inspire the viewer with their beauty and skilled applications. Ken Roby, the Village Blacksmith, takes a new look at iron sculpture. Additional works by Mary Pinckney, John Kluth and Gail Crum round out this exciting exhibition.

The Opening Reception will be held on Friday, January 11th from 6-8pm.. Popular jazz and blues ensemble the Joe Hunter Trio will perform; refreshments will be provided. The event is free and open to the public.

These exhibits will be held in cooperation with the International House of Blues Foundation, who are bringing their Moving Blues Schoolhouse program to Chagrin Falls on Thursday, January 24th, at the new Chagrin Falls High School Auditorium. Call VAC at (440) 247-7507 to register for this program.
